Inspired by the incredible spirit of Rotary Youth Exchange Students (YES)—both inbound and outbound—the Hamilton Rotary Club has created a Peace Pole to symbolize unity and hope.
The project came together through the generosity and teamwork of Rotary members and local partners. The pole itself was donated by Curtis Lumber, with thanks to Rotary member Julie West. President John Bailey researched and secured the multilingual message plaques, while members Lorna Wilson and Pastor Bill Stoklosa joined Bailey in assembling the pole in his basement.
The Peace Pole made its debut in July, riding proudly on the Rotary float during the Fourth of July parade in Hamilton. It was accompanied by Inbound YES student Sittha “Hero” Sinsawat and returning Outbound YES student Morgan Amir.
Now, the community is invited to the official Peace Pole Installation and Dedication Ceremony on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 3:30 PM at the Hamilton Central School playground entrance.
During the ceremony, HCS students will share short presentations about each country represented on the pole. The Peace Pole itself bears the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in eight languages as well as in braille—a reminder that peace transcends borders, cultures, and backgrounds.
Peace Poles are part of a global movement to affirm the message of peace, and the Hamilton Rotary’s installation is a visible commitment to Rotary’s mission of building goodwill and fostering a culture of peace worldwide.
