The CNY Rotary Service Committee achieved meaningful district impact during the 2025-2026 year, despite beginning its work later than planned. After stepping into the Service Chair role in November 2025 and convening the first meeting in December, the committee quickly gained momentum thanks to the immediate commitment of the subcommittee leaders for Gift of Life, ShelterBox, Habitat for Humanity, and International Services. These subcommittees are led by Dana Jerrard (International Services), Tom Burdick (Gift of Life), Dave Hichcock (ShelterBox) and Evan Kurtz (Habitat for Humanity).
Gift of Life strengthened district relationships and provided Rotarians a powerful opportunity to meet this year’s program recipient (Bayarchimeg Galsandorj) at District Conference. International Services expanded global engagement by securing new club partnerships. ShelterBox and Habitat for Humanity both increased visibility through club presentations and conference participation, generating new interest and deepening local collaboration.
Committee representation at RLI, MD-PELS, and District Conference ensured consistent communication of service priorities, with the Epic Day of Service standing out as a major success - 18 clubs participated, an increase of 14 over the previous year.
Overall, the committee’s rapid organization, strong leadership, and active outreach resulted in a significantly expanded service footprint across the district.
Looking ahead
I’m excited to share that our committee is preparing to grow in powerful new ways, bringing Books for the World, Literacy initiatives, Veteran Services, and a dedicated Mental Health focus into our service portfolio. Each addition strengthens our ability to offer every club a service pillar that speaks directly to their passions and their community’s needs.
To elevate these programs and deepen our presence across the district, we need more Rotarians who are ready to inspire, lead, and help move the needle. With your help in connecting us to the right people, I’m confident CNY will continue to grow into a powerhouse of meaningful, purpose‑driven service.
