Twenty-nine volunteers broke up into groups to plant another 40 trees across the city on Saturday, as part of the Urban Tree Planting project, a cooperative program with The Unitarian Universalist Church, Rotary Club of Utica, and the City of Utica Parks Department.

Allyship is about being conscious and intentional, and that means learning to truly listen to others. Though another’s experience may be different from your own, listening is a pathway to greater empathy.

U.S. Army Veteran Jimmy Thomas knows firsthand how beneficial a service dog has been in his life. Thankfully he was able to have access to one with ease, but this isn’t always the reality for many of his peers.
The average cost of a service dog can exceed $50,000 depending on the medical need of the veteran, with less than three percent of veterans who could benefit from having a service dog, actually having access to one. Moreover, an estimated 22 veterans commit suicide per day, and knowing how a service dog can save a veteran, Jimmy and his team of volunteers at Doggie Paddle For Veterans, are committed to this cause.
