The Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club is working on multiple efforts to improve the lives of families and children with a main focus on literacy, development, and the well being of others. Through the club’s donations, community engagement, and service projects, the club promotes peace, wellness, and education in their community.

On Wednesday, August 14, the club will hold their Annual Farm Trip, named in memory of the club’s late President Al Turner. The Al Turner Rotary Youth Program has evolved into more than just a field trip to a dairy farm, but now includes pony rides, ice cream, and education for all ages. There are 30 children attending from various organizations in Syracuse.

On June 18, there was an explosive house fire on the northside of Syracuse where eleven people were hurt and two were seriously injured. The Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club visited the Burmese Muslim Community Center to make a donation to the center and the family. The group participated in meaningful conversation while feasting on authentic cuisine during the fellowship. The club will reach out to the Red Cross and city and public officials to seek more assistance for the family that lost everything and were terribly injured in the fire.

The YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County is “dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.”

The Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club has started the Theardis Martino Summer Camperships Program to enable children to participate and attend summer camps in rural facilities, completely sponsored by the club. The program’s vision is to fully fund those children to an excellent camp, outside of the city, for the entire course of the summer program. The club is sponsoring three young ladies to participate in the YWCA Camp this summer. This program is extremely beneficial to the families but most importantly, aids in the development of the child who will experience it.

In conclusion, the Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club works diligently to make their community a better place for opportunity, positive experiences, and community engagement. The city organizations work together closely to accomplish these improvements by collaborating, benefiting, and assisting each other. It’s important that those groups of people come together, making a difference, living by service above self.
