Edward "Ed" Lynde Paparella, 84, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at the Abraham House in Utica. Born in Utica in 1940, Ed graduated from T.R. Proctor High School in 1958 and earned his degree from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute in 1960. He began a long and fulfilling career in banking at Marine Midland Bank, later serving as Executive Vice President at Homestead Savings and Loan until his retirement in 1996.
He took great pride in honoring the role of “Dad” to all eleven of his children, who were blessed beyond measure to call him theirs. He and his wife Barb would have celebrated 51 years together later this month.
In retirement, Ed dedicated himself to volunteerism and community service. A passionate Rotarian since 1976, he held numerous leadership roles, including District Governor and Chair of a Polio Plus campaign. He was also deeply involved with the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, the Good News Foundation, Interfaith Bridge Builders, and SCORE.
Ed’s strong faith guided his life, and he was an active member of several churches throughout the Utica area. Known for his deep love of humanity and commitment to service, Ed left a lasting impact on his community and all who knew him.
