Now In its 102nd year, the Rotary Club of Cobleskill (4914) held it’s annual ‘change over meeting’ June 17th 2026, installing their 2026-2027 Board of Directors. Presiding this year as Club President is Gary Morris of Howes Caves, NY.
Residing in Schoharie County for the past three years, Gary was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is the proud son of Juanita, a long-time Puerto Rico Rotarian and leader, and a major influence and role model for him joining Rotary.
Gary is currently the inaugural Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Cobleskill, where he enjoys bridging relationships between the community and the college. He earned his BS in biochemistry and Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Old Dominion University, both in Norfolk, Virginia; was a postdoctoral fellow at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN.
In addition, Gary enjoys spending time with his three children and meeting people in the community and making new friends. He regularly attends service at Our Lady of Fatima in Delanson, enjoys hiking and discovering new trails, visiting vineyards and wineries, and exploring and experiencing new locations in our beautiful State of New York.
His mother’s example, 20+ years of experience in higher education, his travels across the U.S. and outreach to community and new friends; has helped him recognize that food insecurity is universal and benefits from communities coming together to address it. Under his leadership, Cobleskill Rotary will continue its support of local programs and organizations that address these issues, including coordinating with the Joshua Project to deliver food through the Summer Backpack Program and Holiday Meal Basket programs.
In additional to local issues, Cobleskill Rotary supports global Rotary International programs, including: it’s more than 45 years campaign to eradicate polio; working with Gift of Life International to develop sustainable pediatric cardiac programs in developing countries by implementing screening, surgical and training events, as well as being host to several children and family members that came to Albany Medical Center for cardiac surgery; in addition, for 50 years the club has been involved in the Youth Exchange program, sending local students abroad and hosting students coming into our community. For students ages 15-19, students experience a school year in another country, living with host families to experience new cultures, learn languages, and become global citizens of the world.
