Rotary promotes peace in the world through our areas of focus. Peace poles can be a catalyst to bring communities together for this project.
A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message May Peace Prevail On Earth in 4 or 8 languages, depending on the pole chosen. Generally, English is one of the languages chosen for the U.S., along with other languages to demonstrate our unity with others.
The message is an affirmation of peace and its placement furthers Rotary's goal of building a culture of peace throughout the world.

Peace Poles are intended to inspire unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Rotary recommends a Peace Pole ceremony to accompany the installation of each pole. This can also be revisited each year with a ceremony or event to remind the community why the pole is there. You can choose the International Day of Peace, September 21, or any date that works for your club and community.
The message May Peace Prevail On Earth was authored by the late Masahisa Goi of Japan after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is an international message with over quarter of a million Peace Poles located in every country the around the world, dedicated as symbols of peace. Once a Peace Pole is planted, Rotary will put it on their Rotary Peace Poles Map.
