Five years ago, our district's Global Grants Committee embarked on its first opioid awareness global grant and, in search of an international partner, reached out to over 100 Rotary clubs.

A response came from Rotarian Ravi Ramesh of the Rotary Club Chennai in Southwest India. His willingness to collaborate helped forge a partnership that began with this grant and has since expanded to include several other projects worldwide.

One of the most recent projects we’ve had the privilege to support is in Allipoo Gunta, a region consisting of 15 villages and a population of 12,000 people. Traditionally an agrarian area, the region has seen much of its farmland taken over by industrialization, leading to challenges for local communities. Through this project, we are working to transform a local pond into a vital resource that will serve the surrounding villages.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Rotary Foundation, over 2,500 individuals will directly benefit from the improvements to the pond, ensuring better access to water and improving the quality of life for the residents. This project is just one example of how our partnership with the Rotary Club Chennai continues to make a lasting impact on communities around the world.
