Franklin Rotary and the Franklin-Treadwell Community Conversation invite community members to join us for a free hands-only CPR/AED training on Thursday, May 8, 2025, 6 p.m. at the Open Doors United Methodist Church, 475 Main Street, Franklin, NY.

The training, provided by Kim Van Atta of Walton, a certified instructor for the American Safety and Health Institute and prior to that the American Red Cross, will teach participants to administer hands-only CPR and to use a portable AED.

Hands-only CPR uses chest compressions only, without rescue breaths. It is as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest in the first few minutes and it’s also faster and easier to learn than traditional CPR. Hands-only CPR is also less exhausting and less intimidating for people who may be hesitant to provide mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Learning CPR is crucial because it empowers you to potentially save a life during a cardiac emergency, and it’s a skill that can be used to help anyone, anywhere, anytime, including loved ones.

If you learned CPR prior to 2008, this class will teach you the updated recommended methods. This class is best suited to ages 15+. If participants want a certificate of training completion, the cost is $7.50 – otherwise the class is provided at no cost.

Fighting disease, saving mothers and children, and supporting education are three areas of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus. We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen these areas in our local, regional, and international communities.
