Concerned about the number of children in our area seen riding their bicycles without helmets recently, members of the Edmeston Rotary Club decided to take action to address the issue.
They were able to coordinate with staff of the Otsego County Health Department for a free bike helmet giveaway at Spookfest last weekend. Health Department staff - who provided the helmets free of charge - measured children’s heads, helped them select a color that they liked, and sent them on their way with a new helmet, some good bike safety information, and a cute backpack to keep them all in.
One head injury is too many, and Edmeston Rotary is glad that they were able to facilitate the donation of 31 new bike helmets to 20 area families. Pictured are local resident Joy Miller and her two beautiful granddaughters, backed by Mad Hatter Laura Bryant and cowgirl Kimberly Schlosser from the Health Department. This is just another one of the ways that their department serves the area all so well.
