Denise DiNoto, Class of 1991, has been posthumously inducted onto the Bainbridge-Guilford High School Wall of Distinction in recognition of her extraordinary leadership, advocacy, and service. This represents one of the district’s highest honors, recognizing graduates whose lives and accomplishments bring lasting pride to the school community.

Living with a degenerative neuromuscular disease, Denise faced physical challenges that would have discouraged many. Instead, she met those obstacles with determination and grace, transforming personal adversity into a lifelong mission of advocacy and inclusion.

Encouraged by local Rotarian Ken Benson while still a student, she embraced the opportunity to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange. Denise became one of Rotary’s first Youth Exchange students with a disability, spending a transformative year in Tasmania, Australia. That experience strengthened her resolve to expand opportunity and accessibility for others.

She later served as District Governor for Rotary District 7190, exemplifying Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self. Her leadership was marked not only by vision, but by lived experience, inspiring others to see ability rather than limitation.

Professionally, Denise was a respected disability advocate, public speaker, and leader within New York State’s independent living movement. Her work consistently advanced equity, accessibility, and dignity for individuals with disabilities.

Her induction recognizes not only achievement, but courage. Denise’s legacy stands as a powerful reminder that barriers can be challenged, systems can be improved, and lives can be changed.
