At the Rotary Club of Cooperstown's November 19 meeting, a ceremonial check for $4,000 was presented to support a pioneering partnership between Bassett Healthcare Network’s Cancer Institute and the Cooperstown Food Pantry. This innovative collaboration provides free, nutritious food to cancer patients in need across the region, alleviating financial burdens during their treatment.

The matching grant, consisting of $2,000 from Central New York Rotary and $2,000 from the Cooperstown Rotary Club, will help sustain and grow this vital program.

"At the Rotary, we strive to lead by example, bridge generations, and serve our community. The efforts to remove the stress of mealtime decisions for cancer patients aligns perfectly with those goals," said Bill Waller, Rotary President. "Thank you to my colleagues at the Rotary for their dedication in securing this grant and to Dr. Bertine McKenna for helping connect us with Bassett Healthcare Network."

The partnership, which also includes the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, aims to expand access to even more nutritious food for cancer patients, at no additional cost. There are plans to extend this program and potentially create similar models in other regions across the state and country.
