The Chestertown Rotary Club is pleased to announce the installation of wheelchair-accessible picnic tables at several public locations throughout the North Warren community, providing more inclusive outdoor spaces where everyone can gather, dine, and enjoy the beauty of the Adirondacks.
The project reflects Rotary's ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike by removing barriers and creating welcoming community spaces for people of all abilities.
"Access to our parks and public spaces should be available to everyone," said Doug Welch, Club President. "These accessible picnic tables allow individuals who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices to comfortably sit with family and friends, ensuring that everyone has a place at the table."
The accessible tables feature extended tops that provide adequate knee clearance and easy wheelchair access while maintaining seating for family members and friends.
The tables are installed at the Horicon Town Hall, the park in Adirondac (near the General Store), and Dynamite Hill Recreation Area, expanding opportunities for inclusive recreation throughout the region.
Funding for the project was made possible through grants from the Central New York Rotary District Grant Fund and the Adirondack Community Foundation. The Chestertown Rotary Club also thanks the Parks and Rec team of the Town of Horicon whose support and assembly skills helped make the project a reality.
The project is one example of Rotary's ongoing efforts to strengthen the community through service. By investing in accessible infrastructure, the club hopes to encourage greater participation in outdoor activities and foster a sense of belonging for residents and visitors of all abilities.
