Mary M. Surdey, Binghamton Rotary Club President, surveyed the members of the club as to what projects they wanted to do for the community. The leading
response to the survey was to help provide food for those in need.

For its Holiday community service project, the Binghamton Rotary Club focused on food insecurity by raising food and funds for the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW). By the end of this project they raised 171 pounds of food and $1,551 toward helping food insecure people.

According to Rev. Dr. Joseph Sellepack, Executive Director of the Broome County Council of Churches and sponsor of CHOW, “ the shelf stable food and baby formula were a godsend. Combined with the money for food purchases will result in over 5,000 meals. This was an amazing tribute to the spirit of Rotary and
generosity.”

The above is the first result of the club’s effort to help relieve food insecurity.
