Our District Peace Subcommittee (yes, it is part of the Foundation Committee) has partnered with Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI). MBBI started as an official service partner for Rotary International and brings technical field expertise to Rotary’s commitment to peace and conflict resolution. Rotary Peace Fellows are among those involved in this organization and it is another opportunity for local and international service from anywhere in the world.
CNY Rotary’s first cohort of facilitators completed training last month for Positive Peace Conversations. And now to practice our skills, we are starting with conversations about the Eight Pillars of Positive Peace within our clubs. Baldwinsville Rotary was our first club, as they explored questions about Acceptance of the Rights of Others. These conversations are a format to really listen to each other, hear, and participate. The participants had positive feedback that the conversation was time well spent and valuable to the members.
As the Facilitators’ skills improve, we will moderate more challenging topics and eventually be able to participate almost anywhere in the world via Zoom. Please let us know if your club is interested. We start by meeting with the club President or representatives to decide a topic, agree on questions and scheduling. Conversations take about one hour on Zoom. This can be during your regular meeting time, or an additional session. Contact our Peace Sub-Committee for more information.
The Pillars of Positive Peace are:
1. Well-functioning Government
2. Sound Business Environment
3. Equitable Distribution of Resources
4. Acceptance of the Rights of Others
5. Good Relations with Neighbors
6. Free Flow of Information
7. Hight Levels of Human Capital
8. Low Levels of Corruption
