The Camillus Solvay Geddes Rotary is deeply committed to addressing food scarcity in their local communities. For years, they have focused on bringing resources to those in need, whether through food drives, fundraisers, or community partnerships. Each year, their “Walk Against Hunger” event brings neighbors and friends together, not only to raise funds but to show support and solidarity with those facing food insecurity. Thanks to the generosity of the community, this year’s Walk Against Hunger in September was a success, with all proceeds going to organizations that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
The Food Bank of Central New York (CNY) plays a crucial role in this mission. Serving an eleven-county area, the Food Bank of CNY supports a vast network of food pantries, meal sites, and emergency shelters to reach individuals and families who struggle with food access. Their recent contribution to the Food Bank directly supports its efforts to bring fresh, nutritious food to thousands in our region, providing comfort and sustenance to our neighbors when they need it most.
Locally, the WG Power Pack program is another essential partner in fighting food insecurity. Each week, this program provides schoolchildren in our area with nutritious food packs to take home over the weekend, ensuring they have meals to rely on outside school hours. Their contribution to the WG Power Pack program not only helps students but also strengthens families and builds a healthier, more resilient community.
Through the support of our community and fellow Rotarians, Camillus Solvay Geddes Rotary was able to donate $2,400 to the Food Bank of CNY and $1,600 to the WG Power Pack program—funds that will directly provide nutritious meals to those who need it most. The Rotary Club of Camillus Solvay Geddes is deeply grateful to our families, friends, and neighbors who joined us in this effort.
